Mark Madsen, Class of 1994:

Mark Madsen attended San Ramon High School from 1991 until graduation in 1994. Mr. Madsen played three seasons as a starter for the Varsity Basketball Team placing in the top four at NCS all three seasons. He was named All-League for 2 seasons, competed at state level 1 year and set a record at SRVHS for Most Points Scored.

Madsen caught the attention of all the major colleges during his illustrious career at San Ramon Valley High School. His size, strength and fundamentals made him stand out among some of the top rated players in the country. He helped lead San Ramon to the semifinals of the CIF Northern California Division II and shot 73 percent from the floor. Mark graduated from San Ramon with a 3.70 GPA and was student body president and newspaper editor for two years.

He gained numerous post-season honors, including all-league, MVP, San Francisco Examiner Player of the Year and first team all-state. Mark also played during his senior season in the inaugural East-West Nations High School Coaches Association game in Atlanta, featuring 20 of the nation’s top high school players.

Mr. Madsen went on to attend Stanford University on an athletic scholarship and was a 4-year starter at Stanford. He graduated with a degree in Economics. Among his many accomplishments at Stanford:

- Named Third Team All-America
- Named Second Team All-America
- Named to the 10-member John Wooden All-America Team
- Twice named to the All-Pac-10 First Team during his career
- Named First Team CoSida Academic All-America
- First Team All Pac-10 Academic selection
- Finished career with 857 rebounds, sixth=best in Stanford history
- Played in the Final Four

After graduating from Stanford, Mark was drafted in the first round (29th pick overall) in the 2000 NBA draft and currently plays for the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers. Me. Madsen is an outstanding leader, mentor to inner-city youth and well known for his giving back to the community.
