Gabe Adami

2013 SRVHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Gabe Adami, Girl’s Basketball Coach:

When word got out that Gabe Adami was under consideration for entry into the SRVHS Athletic Hall of Fame, e-mails came flooding in from his former players in full support of his nomination. Gabe was listed as a spectacular coach, friend, teacher and father figure. Former player, Jenelle Lindsay, wrote that, “He instilled confidence and pride and made athletes believe that they could be better than they ever thought they could be, both on and off the court.”

Gabe coached Girl’s Basketball at SRV for 13 years. As the Junior Varsity Head Coach, he had a 112 – 18 won/loss record with 5 League Championships. As the Varsity Head Coach, he had a won/loss record of 164 – 44. He guided the team to 4 League Championships, 6 NCS Final Four appearances, 1 Nor Cal Championship and ultimately a State Championship for the 1989 – 1990 season.

Coach Adami’s influence could be seen in the classroom as well. Gabe’s Varsity teams had a cumulative grade point average of 3.28. Former player Kristen Peterson notes, “Gabe was, by far, the most influential coach I have ever had in my life. He pushed me to not only be a better player, but he taught me amazing work ethics, how to be part of a team, and to be a team leader. He taught me that hard work and dedication will take you far in life.” And another former player, Shauna Boyles added that, “Mr. Adami was not only the best coach I ever had in all my years of playing sports, but also one of the best adult influences in my life. Next to my own father, Mr. Adami was the person I looked up to and respected the most.”

Gabe’s State Championship made him a winner, but the devotion of his former players made him a true Hall of Famer.

Gabe and his wife, Maureen, live in the same Danville home where they raised their children, Michelle, Michael and Steve.
