Karen Peterson Huether - Class of 1985 - Soccer & Track

Teacher, coach, mentor and mom, those are some of the traits that describe Karen. You can find her today, still involved with kid’s soccer as a Mustang soccer coach. Karen’s motto is, “always doing the right thing”!

At SRV, Karen played 4 years of soccer, 4 years of track and also managed to play one year of tennis. Talk about being an athlete!

In Soccer she was a four year varsity player. In her senior year, Captain Karen, was a key contributor to the Lady Wolves who won NCS in 1985. Karen was an offence threat, leading the EBAL in scoring as a sophomore and as a senior! She was recognized as the most outstanding Offensive player in 1985. In fact, she was named Athlete of the Year for all winter sports by the Tri-Valley Herald in 1985.

After SRV, Karen went on to play four years of soccer for UC Berkeley. She was the Captain her senior year, played in the College Final Four both her Junior & Senior years and was a three time All-Western Region player.  In her senior year at Cal, she became the Varsity girls coach at San Ramon.   After coaching for a year, she went on to become an assistant coach at Cal and then at USF.  She was both a coach and a teacher at Berkeley High School.

After playing at Cal, Karen played semi pro until she was thirty-five years old.  In 1988, she was on the National Championship team, The California Tremors (sister team to the Earthquakes at the time) with teammates that included Joy Fawcett, Brandi Chastain and Amy Allmann.

She has been a coach now for twenty-five years, including coaching her kids over the course of the last ten years.  She coaches two teams for Mustang now and including being a trainer.
