Coach John Raynor:

John Raynor has had a long and illustrious career in collegiate and high school sports and is being honored for his wonderful contributions to the SRVHS athletic program, a position he has held since this author’s sophomore year 1987.

Mr. Raynor’s story starts with his graduation from University of San Francisco in 1976. (Cum Laude) and continues with his Master’s in Education from Chapman in 1991.

In the fifteen years between his degrees, John acquired a laundry list of achievements in coaching at various colleges and high schools.

He started as Asst. Men’s Basketball Coach at Menlo College and continued as Asst. Men’s Basketball Coach at Boise State, Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at Archbishop Mitty Asst. Men’s Basketball Coach at San Jose State, Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at Boulder HS, Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at Lick Wilmerding HS, and finally in 1987 came to SRVHS as the Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach.

Beginning in 1989, John became the Director of Athletics at San Ramon, and continues in that capacity to this day. Mr. Raynor was instrumental in helping to create this very Hall of Fame and has served on the nominating committee since its inception.

Since his start at SRVHS John has been named Honorary NCS Coach of the Year, The Pursuing Victory with Honor NCS Award, Coach of the Year 1988, 1990, 1991 and 2005. Mr. Raynor is an inductee in the Tri-Valley Sports Hall of Fame and was named Teacher of the Year in 2003 by the Eukel Trust.

John has amassed 5 NCS Championships, 8 League Championships, 2 Northern California Championships, and 3 Coaching appearances in a State Championship game.

John Raynor is an institution within this institution and we are eternally grateful for his contributions, dedication and school spirit!
