Bill McMillen

2009 SRVHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Bill McMillen, Class of 1957:

Over a diverse three year varsity career, Bill earned 14 Varsity Letters in five different sports. In 1957, Bill was Northern California’s High School Athlete of the Year. During his senior year, he was named All-League in Football and Baseball, All-Nor Cal in Basketball, and All-State in Track.

Bill broke his older brother Rick’s school record in the 880 yard dash and finished his track career with three school records. His 440 yard dash record (converted to 400 meters) still stands today. Bill was also a member of a World Record 4 x 800 meter relay in the 50-59 division that stood for ten years.

Yes, Bill is a legend! Fourteen Varsity letters, 3 Football, 3 Basketball, 3 Baseball, 3 Track and 2 Cross Country! You can imagine the stats to follow… Nor Cal Prep Athlete of the Year, SRVHS record holder in 400M. All League Football, All-NorCal Basketball (24.3 pts. per game), All-League Baseball (Pitcher and 1st base), All State Track, etc. etc.

Bill had a full scholarship for football and track to Baylor and after college he posted great numbers as well. He was a member of the 1994 World Record 4 x 800m relay in the 50-59y age division (a record that stood for 10 years), he was 5th in World Champs 800m 55-59y, 3rd in World Champs 4 x 400m 60-64y two years running.

Coach Mike O’Gorman said, “Billy was one of two of the greatest athletes I ever coached. Yes, 50 years of coaching”. Sam Stevens (57’) said “If there was a picture in the dictionary of ‘athletic fluidity’, that picture would have been Bill McMillen”, and the accolades go on, and on…

Bill currently lives in San Jose and does street Ministry work.
