Coming this Fall!

Academic Boosters will again offer their popular ACT, SAT and PSAT program to help students prepare for their college tests. Full-length mock ACTs and SATs will be proctored by local test prep companies, giving students a simulated testing practice in a low stress environment right here on campus. Following each test there will be a 1 hour follow-up meeting offering advice designed to increase test knowledge and decrease student’s anxiety levels (parents are welcome at the follow-up meeting).

Designed specifically for Seniors desiring one last test practice prior to their final test sittings in the fall, a Mock SAT or ACT test will be held on September 25th. Sign-ups will begin at Wolf Pack Days and a flyer will be available at the Academic Booster’s table. We anticipate this Mock test will fill up quickly, so sign up early if you want a spot.

Specifically for Juniors, the “Introduction to the PSAT” will be a 4-session seminar offered on campus by Ames Seminars during two different timeslots (4-6pm and 7-9pm). This session helps students understand the PSAT, learn testing strategies, and practice actual questions in a hands-on manner. As the PSAT is unlike most tests that high school Juniors have taken, this opportunity can be quite beneficial to motivated students who are ready to commit themselves to learning about the PSAT and SAT. Sign-ups will begin at Wolf Pack Days and as these sessions are quite popular, you’re encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Directed toward Sophomore students, the ACT/SAT Combo test will complete the Booster’s Test Prep Program in April. The Combo is a tool for students trying to determine which test, the ACT or the SAT, might be the best option for them. The Combo test offers questions written in both the SAT and ACT style, then is scored to assess which test questions the student is most successful answering. As the ACT (a cumulative knowledge based test) and SAT (a critical reasoning test) are very different types of tests, some students find they are better able to correctly answer one type of questions over the other type.

The major emphasis throughout this program will be stress reduction for the students involved in the college testing process and affordable prices which will make practice tests accessible to all interested students. Students who attend the follow-up sessions receive their test results and can use these to find their areas of strengths and weaknesses. The College/Career Center has many preparation and test books for students who wish to increase their scores through practice and attaining a comfort level with the types of questions they can expect. Families can find up to date information on local test prep options in the center as well.
