Ever wonder why boys are more adventurous, more physical, more rambunctious? Why are they more aggressive? And how do they come to understand and express strong character and values?

 

Michael Gurian, author of “The Purpose of Boys,” presents an easy-to-read but compelling examination of how our boys are “hard- wired”—the unique brain chemistry and hormones of boys, along with their inherent developmental and learning differences, that impact how they behave, learn, and formulate their character and sense of purpose.

 

“Boys” provides parents and other adults who interact with boys a comprehensive look at how our young men develop their identity, their sense of meaning and purpose in our culture and world. Gurian provides practical suggestions that will benefit parents and adults that interact with boys of all ages.

 

What if you only have girls? What if you don’t have any children? Parents and adults are encouraged to read “Boys” and join in discussing this revealing look at boys because they will become the men who shape our lives, country, and world tomorrow. The book looks specifically at boys, but addresses how they are “opposite” in the ways in which girls experience and develop, so you can pick up tips on girls too! In addition, boys and young men are classmates and friends, neighbors, employees at local businesses and, hold on—boyfriends to our young ladies!!

 

The book beings with early childhood development of boys, so Book Club discussions, while focusing more on “tween” and teen boys, will provide insights on younger boys, so parents and adults of all ages are encouraged to join the conversations!!

Dr. Peter Benson, President and CEO of The Search Institute, visited our community last September to share with us the purpose and importance of the 40 Developmental Assets and “Sparks,” the innate passions and interests that each one of us has that, when discovered, will inspire us to be and to do all that we are meant to be and do. When we as adults are aware of the assets and sparks, they become powerful tools for empowering, inspiring and investing intentionally in lives of our youth, whether as our own children, as our neighbors, athletes, students in our schools, interns or customers in our stores.

 

What has been happening in our community since Dr. Benson’s visit? Where are we going with the assets-sparks initiative in our community? Many people are doing lots of great things, and there is still more to be done in our community! Topics will include activities in our local schools, tutoring/mentoring opportunities, the healthy community-healthy youth initiative, and “neighborhood groups”.

 

Please join us for a light continental breakfast and hear more about all that is going on in our schools and community groups, learn about the things that remain to be accomplished and how YOU can participate with us in developing all the students in our community into young people with passion and purpose who are equipped for the challenges of our diverse community, economy and ever-changing world and prepared to be contributors to their communities!

The Asset Dinner is a unique venue for parents, students, teachers, counselors and community members to gather and learn practical ways to incorporate the 40 Developmental Assets into kids lives, helping promote personal character and life skills that will empower them in making healthy and productive choices for their lives. Studies show that the more assets a student has in his or her life, the more likely they are to be strong, confident and successful young people.

 

In addition to the assets, our presenters will encourage adults to recognize students sparks, the unique passions and interests that each person has hidden within. We will learn how to connect specific assets with our students passions, empowering and inspiring them to pursue their dreams and accomplish their goals with positive parental support and much less stress! Do you know your sparks? Being aware of the things you are passionate about, engaging in the things you enjoy most or are most talented at will help you recognize and engage your student in his or her sparks!!

While the presentation will be geared primarily to middle and high school students, the asset framework and sparks are adaptable for students of all ages, so please feel free to join us!!

are invited to participate in the Family “Table Talk” Dinner! Speakers and special presentations will offer practical ways to help adults and students employ the assets, build better communication skills, develop a greater sense of connection and stronger relationships!

 

For many of our students, economic issues and a variety of other stressors in their lives can make them feel adrift and without purpose. Whatever your role as an adult in the lives of young people, you will be able to pick up tips and skills that will be empower you to positively impact and invest in our young people!

Studies show that the more assets a student has in his or her life, the more likely they are to be strong, confident and successful young people. We will learn how to connect specific assets with our students’ passions, empowering and inspiring them to pursue their dreams and accomplish their goals with positive adult and parental support and much less stress!

 

While the presentation will be geared to middle and high school students, parents with elementary students will also benefit, not only with asset applications, but from the “sneak peek” at transitioning to the “tween” and “teen” years!!

SRVHS CHEERLEADING TRYOUT INFORMATIONAL MEETING

 

Any incoming 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade student interested in trying out for cheerleading MUST attend a MANDATORY informational meeting.

 

When: Wednesday, March 31st

Time: 6pm

Location: Performing Arts Center

Who: Interested students and one parent/guardian

 

Attendance by BOTH the interested student and a parent/guardian is MANDATORY. Attendance will be taken.

For the past seven years, the San Ramon Community Fair has been an excellent opportunity for local and national Community, Youth and Service Organizations, as well as Youth Activity Providers, to give the community information about their services and opportunities. Last year's event included over 60 vendors (nonprofits, community groups, businesses, etc.). In addition to the traditional camps and organizations we have had in the past, we are inviting a new set of organizations to participate this year...nonprofits who are seeking youth and families to VOLUNTEER with their organizations. We hope that the addition of these groups will broaden community interest in attend the event. The flyer is attached. Please distribute and share this flyer and event with your entire school community. The event is open to everyone and there are vendors/tables with opportunities for pre-K youth, elementary age, middle school age, high school age, and even entire families.

 

Hundreds of summer and fall programs for youth ages 0-18 and their families!

You’re sure to find ideas for all the kids in your household, as well as fun activities for the whole family. Sometimes it is hard to know what programs and services are available in your own community. The purpose of the Community Fair is to provide families with a “one-stop-shop” where they can meet faceto- face with various groups that provide summer and fall programs and activities. The idea for this fair came from community members who wanted “options” for their kids, instead of the kids sitting at home all summer…watching TV or playing on the computer. Come and join us!
