San Ramon Valley High School

Sra. Miriam Dominguez
The focus of the Advanced Placement Spanish Language class is to prepare the students for the A.P. Spanish Language exam in May. This class is at the level of a third semester university course.

These are the topics to be covered:
1. Families and Communities
2. Science and Technology
3. Beauty and Aesthetics
4. Contemporary Life
5. Personal and Public Identities
6. Global Challenges

Spanish will be used exclusively in the classroom.

Students will acquire vocabulary that covers a wide range of topics and there will be some review of advanced grammar. The A.P. Spanish Language students will also work on developing listening, speaking, reading comprehension and writing. Students will be trained to write informal letters and hold informal phone conversations. In preparation for the exam the students will practice listening and reading information on current world issues then write analytical and persuasive essays or record their opinions regarding the information.

In order to be succesful at speaking and listening the students have to make individual efforts to immerse themselves in the language in the class as well as outside of class.

Some of the components in developing fluency and cultural knowledge will include literature, daily speaking practice, use of online resources for listening and recording, reading current events and synthesizing the information, watching Spanish programming on TV. Daily homework, including weekends, is required to be succesful and to achieve our curricular goals. One speaking presentation pre Quarter is required.

Once the students have taken the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam, the focus of our work will be cultural.
