2004 SRVHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Coach Rick Steen:

Rick Steen is one of the most beloved coaches ever to grace the halls and fields of San Ramon Valley High School. If you have had anything to do with San Ramon High or the Tri-Valley area over the last three decades, you have undoubtedly heard the name Rick Steen.

Coach Steen grew up in Oakland and attended Skyline High School where he played three years of baseball. After high school, Rick moved on to Chico State where he played 4 years of football and 2 year of baseball while earning a BA in Physical Education. After earning his teaching credentials, Mr. Steen stared a career at Amador Valley High as a Physical Education teacher, Math teacher, JV Baseball and Football Coach.

Coach Steen came to San Ramon High beginning in 1974 and for the next 14 years worked as a Physical Education teacher, Varsity Baseball Coach, Football Coach and Varsity Soccer Coach.

After a stint as a teacher and coach in England on a Full-Bright Teacher Exchange, Mr. Steen returned to SRVHS to work as a Physical Education teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach. Lucky for us, he has been there ever since.

To list all of Rick Steen’s affiliations, awards, and achievements would be impossible in the space allotted-they are numerous.

In 2002, Coach Steen was named Division II National High School Coach of the Year ABCA, and Division II District 8 High School Coach of the Year ABCA. In 2001 he was inducted into the Irish National Baseball Hall of Fame and given a state service/success award by the California Baseball Coaches Association. In 1999, Coach Steen was East Bay Area Coach of the Year and was inducted to the Tri-Valley Hall of Fame in 1996.
